A qualified health workforce is essential for achieving the child development outcomes envisioned by the Nurturing Care Framework (NCF) and for improving the quality of early childhood development (ECD) services.
Due to their continuous contact with parents and young children before and after birth, healthcare professionals are in a strategic position to promote nurturing care and child development through ECD services, namely parent counselling on child developments, guidance on age-appropriate play and communication activities, as well as identification of developmental difficulties and referral.
The webinar on “Strengthening Health Care Practitioners’ Competencies to Support Nurturing Care and Early Childhood Development” on 23 May 2023 at 10:30 CEST puts the Nurturing Care Framework (NCF) roadmap into action by:
- Presenting examples of pre- and in-service training designed to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals to support caregivers in providing nurturing care and promote ECD as part of their routine practice;
- Exploring opportunities and barriers to professional development;
- Exploring common entry points to integrate ECD-related content.
This webinar is organized by UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (ECARO), WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe), and the International Step by Step Association (ISSA) under the auspices of the Health Systems for Early Child Development initiative. An initiative that serves policy makers, health workers and health care service planners in Europe and Central Asia in their mission to provide young children and their families with quality care that looks beyond the traditional approach of focusing on the physical health of the child.
The webinar will be in English with simultaneous interpretation in Russian, and Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian (BCMS).
